Hudson, Potts & Bernstein attorney Adam Cossey recently obtained a rare United State Supreme Court victory in the case of Carolyn Lawson v. Simmons Sporting Goods. In Lawson, the plaintiff sued a Louisiana corporation, Simmons Sporting Goods, in her home state of Arkansas. The trial court dismissed the lawsuit for lack of jurisdiction, but the Arkansas Court of Appeals reversed. After discretionary review was denied by the Arkansas Supreme Court, Simmons petitioned the United States Supreme Court for certiorari, relief that is granted in less than 1% of all cases filed with the nation’s high court. On October 2, 2017, the Supreme Court issued an order granting certiorari, vacating the decision of the Arkansas Court of Appeals, and remanding the case back to Arkansas state court. Adam worked on the Supreme Court petition with co-counsel from the New York City office of Quinn, Emanuel, Urquhart, & Sullivan.
